It’s well-known that feeding ourselves and our loved ones can be expensive. I’m often amazed at how a couple of grocery bags can significantly impact my budget. My goal is to maximize the value of my spending while still enjoying the foods I love. In the summer, I take advantage of the plentiful produce that is finally in season, along with more affordable cuts of meat. Naturally, during the warmer months, I avoid using the oven and instead rely on the grill, which becomes my go-to cooking tool.
For larger cuts of meat like pork shoulder or flank steak, a simple marinade to tenderize and enhance flavor is all that’s needed. Ground chicken, pork, and beef are also budget-friendly options that are perfect for grilling. These ingredients are great for making grilled meatballs and burgers, needing only a few condiments to complete the meal.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that having a meat thermometer is an excellent idea, no matter your grilling experience. It eliminates the guesswork (and stress!) from cooking meat to perfection.
