Sure, here’s a revised version of the content:

Savor fresh and juicy summer peaches in this take on a classic margarita.

Aged tequila infuses caramel and toffee undertones enhancing the fruity profile. Peach schnapps replaces traditional triple sec, accentuating the peach flavor. The lime zest adds a citrusy burst to the salt rim with every sip.

Whether you’re lounging by the pool, at a backyard BBQ, or grilling, this refreshing summer cocktail will help you beat the heat anywhere.

What’s a Margarita?

A margarita is a cocktail that blends tequila, triple sec, and lime juice, typically served in a salt-rimmed glass.

Over time, the basic recipe has evolved with numerous variations in ingredients and presentation. Fruits like mango, strawberry, melons, and lately, peaches—bring a sweet and fruity twist.

The drink can also take a savory or spicy turn with ingredients like cucumbers or jalapenos. Fresh herbs such as basil or cilantro can elevate the flavor. The frozen version, blended with ice, is a popular choice for its refreshment.

An Ode to Peaches

While Georgia is famed as the Peach State, New Jersey, where I live, also grows amazing peaches in large quantities, ranking us third in production according to some reports.

If you find yourself with an abundance of ripe peaches, this cocktail is an ideal way to use them. Consider these tips to create a standout peach margarita:

  • Bruised peaches are fine as they get muddled.
  • Keep the skin on as the drink is strained.
  • Muddle the peach thoroughly to extract maximum juice.
  • A bit of pulp is okay as it won’t be more pulpy than orange juice.

All About Tequila

Tequila is an essential ingredient in a margarita, made from the agave plant mainly in Jalisco, Mexico. There are three main types: Blanco (silver), reposado, and añejo.

They differ by aging; Blanco is unaged, reposado is aged for 2 months to a year, and añejo is aged for one to three years.

There’s also joven, a mix of Blanco with some aged tequila, and extra añejo, aged for at least three years. For those curious to know more, there’s a guide for becoming a tequila connoisseur!

A Note About Peach Schnapps

The classic margarita calls for triple sec, a type of orange liqueur. Instead, I use peach schnapps for a sweeter, fruit-forward flavor throughout the cocktail.

In Europe, schnapps typically refers to brandy made from fermented fruit juices without sweeteners. In the US, it’s a fruit-infused, sweetened liquor ideal for cocktails.

Usually served chilled as a digestive, the American version of schnapps is steeped in alcohol, strained, and sweetened, making it great for mixing drinks.

Margarita Garnish Options

I only salt part of the glass rim for a lighter salt touch, but feel free to salt the entire rim if you like. Lime zest is optional if you’d rather keep it simple.

The cocktail is enhanced with citrus from fresh lime juice. Most bars rim the glass top, which is simple to achieve. A tip I learned: wet the glass’s outer edge just below the rim before pressing into salt to avoid salt falling into the cocktail itself.

How To Make a Peach Margarita

Making a peach margarita is straightforward.

  • Mash a peach in a cocktail shaker
  • Combine tequila, lime juice, schnapps, and ice
  • Salt the glass rim and add ice
  • Strain the mixture over ice
  • Enjoy it!

How To Scale the Cocktail

Due to muddled peaches taking up space, make one cocktail at a time (unless you’re only serving a few friends).

If serving a crowd, batch the recipe in a blender for quicker preparation. Pour into a fancy pitcher or serve directly into glasses filled with ice to quickly quench your guests’ thirst.
