Important Food Recalls to Note This Week

This week, two recalls have come to attention: one has been updated, and a new one has been announced. Make sure to check and remove these items from your pantry and freezer.

Spoilage Concerns Around Shelf-Stable Milk

On January 17, the FDA updated its classification of Horizon Organic Aseptic Plain Whole Milk’s recall. Initially issued on December 13, 2024, the recall is now considered Class II for unspecified reasons.

Recalls are categorized into three levels. A Class II recall indicates “a situation where the use or exposure to a violative product might cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, and where the probability of serious health repercussions is low,” as per the FDA.

Horizon provided an update on January 28: “This voluntary recall is not due to allergens, microorganisms, or pathogen contamination. The issue stems from heat damage during processing, affecting the milk’s properties and leading to early spoilage.”
